Why are people afraid of drinking raw milk? -maybe it's not safe.

My Family has two milk cows that we get fresh, un-pasturized, un-homogenized milk. We think that it is better for us to drink, and research has proven that it is in fact much more healthy than pasturized, homogenized milk. But most people that I know, who I have asked if they want some milk, have said something like "gross, raw milk?" or if they are polite "no, I don't think I'd like it." So the question remains, why are people afraid of drinking raw milk? Some of the things I have heard people say have led me to believe they think, it's not clean, maybe it tastes "bad", or it's weird because it's not "store bought".

Why do people think it's not clean? They have imagined this because they have thought "why would they pasturize it in the first place?" I have heard that people started pasturizing milk because some milk was giving people malaria. The daries thought it was some of their cows that were sick, and to be safe all milk needed to be pasturized. Later they did more study and found that it was some of the workers who milked the cows had malaria and had left the germs in the milk. But it was too late, everyone had heard that the milk was making people sick, so the daries started pasturizing their milk.

People think it tastes "bad" because not many people drink fresh milk, and just like other foods or drinks, if it is out of the ordinary people think it's worse than something that many people eat or drink. Also the word people use to describe un-pasturized, un-homogenized milk is "raw". When people use the word "raw" they are usually talking about raw meat or eggs, and raw meat or raw eggs do not taste good. So when people say something is raw it usually is supposed to be cooked.

In our generation most of what we eat comes right out of a grocery store and something like milk is hardly ever produced at home. So the fact that it is not "store bought" is different, so in the eyes of onlookers it might as well be worse. In addition things out of a grocery store are always supposedly safe, and when it is not out of a grocery store it has the opposite effect that maybe it is not safe.
