What if TV's did not exist? What would people do without watching TV?

All over the United States people are always watching TV. It has been said that the average TV viewer watches five and a half hours each day. That is a lot of wasted time. People could be doing so many more useful things. If TV did not exist, there would much more time to do things more worth while; students would do better in school, people would have more time to develop stronger relationships with family, and have more time to have fun with friends. And I am only talking about wasted time, but with many immoral things on TV, it could also be shown that people would have a better life without it.

Students would do better in school because they would have less distraction of the TV shows that we "have to watch." Students would not waste time watching TV if it didn't exist, therefore would have less distraction. In many homes the TV is on most of the time and pulls people away from concentration. I have seen people being distracted when the TV is on, and it also happens to me whenever the TV is on.

When people are with their family at home, many people just turn on the TV. People could be developing stronger relationships with their family and getting to know each other better, instead of watching TV. To develop stronger relationships people must be interacting with each other, talking and sharing feelings. This is very hard to do while watching TV.

The time gained by not watching TV could be used for activities with friends. Students who would get their homework done in the time that might have been used watching TV, would have more time to be involved in recreational activities.

Now, I am not saying that we shouldn't have TV's. I like TV, as most people do. I am going to an extreme to prove a point. We should spend less time watching TV and we would have a better experiences with school, family, and friends. Try to limit yourself to no more than one hour and thirty minutes each day and less if possible. Then look at what things change for the better.
