NCAA Basketball

The excitement that comes from watching the NCAA basketball tournament exists because of the players desire to win. The game becomes a game of the determination of the players and their skill. Filling out brackets also makes it fun because when you choose a team to win you take sides instantly.

When you watch a game it is very apparent that both teams want to win and are trying with their fullest effort. It is hard to explain but almost every game keeps you intently watching, sitting on the edge of your seat occasionally jumping up with a shout.

Filling out brackets enhances the fun because it creates a competition for yourself at the same time. If you get every game outcome correct you win a new sweet truck. Checking the final score of each game to find whether you were right or not predicting an upset becomes an obsession.

To me watching the NCAA Tournament where a team is a couple points ahead the whole game but looses by a three pointer at the buzzer is better than the Super Bowl any day.

Getting your wisdom teeth out is the worst thing ever, especially if you get dry sockets. There are many reasons, it hurts like heck, you can't eat good food, the dry sockets taste like crap and it ruins the taste of everything you actually can eat, and then when you return to school you have a bunch of make up work that you have to do. The absolute worst is the dry socket stuff that tastes like crap and the pain whenever you eat.

So after having your wisdom teeth taken out you go back about a week later to get your stitches taken out which hurts like sin. Then they tell you that because they had to drill so deep into your bone your mouth where the teeth were taken out is infected, sorry. Then they pack the holes with sick tasting gauze, and everything you eat now not only hurts but tastes like poo.

The whole joy in eating is taken away. First you just don't eat, then you get so hungry you have to and even moving your jaw hurts let alone chewing. Then you try taking your drugs they gave you and the pain relief is not even noticeable. I don't know why but I can never even feel a difference after I take the pain medication.

So at all costs don't do it during the school year when you have to do stuff. Do it during the summer when you can sleep and eat icecream all day long.

Gladiator

During this time period the Romans were fighting Gaul. It is a story of a Spanish Roman General who becomes a slave and a gladiator. The excellent quality of this movie comes not only from the awesome action scenes but also from the realistic depiction of the characters faults and attributes. Although there are violent parts, after finishing the video it gives one a exhilarating feeling of wanting to improve, and that it is possible to improve in every aspect of their life.

Throughout the entire plot there are action scenes that show intense courage and devotion. In the very first battle it portrays the devotion of the Roman army to their general because of his great example. The devotion that they have gives them their courage to fight with no fear of death. These are the great battles that give us courage from seeing others fight selflessly for their leaders.

Within these battles the faults or attributes of each man are brought out. As Maximus fought for Rome's freedom, his faithfulness to the end showed that he new his duty to be more important than his own life.

The Island- note, if you have not seen The Island do not read. The movie will be ruined for you.

This movie depicts a battle that is not too different than some of the moral battles we are fighting today. It is a matter of life and death of humans cloning. In this future time period rich people buy increased life span. They buy clones of themselves and use there body parts. The fact that the clones are living people under an old abandoned army base is kept a secret. So these clones are kept in ignorance about the outside world. They are told that the earth has been contaminated and that they were the only survivors. Their purpose is to populate an Island, the only uncontaminated place left in the world. When certain clones are selected to go to the Island they are killed for their body parts. The greatness of the movie comes from the great characters that show reality in their actions, the innate goodness of those who have not been contaminated from the outside world.

It is very symbolic. The clones who are kept isolated from the world and kept in ignorance to money and other desires of men show an innate goodness, like innocent children . The people outside however are contaminated with money and selfish wants. It is interesting how our society is based on money and individual desires and not so much morals anymore. The movie brings that to view in a sad way showing what so many people will do for money and for their selfish self. But in the end, it shows people who see the clones goodness and become better because of it.
